Helpful Moving Tips for Your Move
- Omaha, NE

Jim's Moving & Delivery Co,, Inc.
Make your reservations for your move as soon as you know your moving date.

Packing Tips
  • Don’t over pack boxes – The heavier the item the smaller the box.
  • Hazardous Materials- According to State Law, we cannot transport flammables such as gasoline, paint and thinner, bottled gases, ammunition and explosives, corrosives, cleaning fluids or detergents.
  • Label boxes on top and sides as they are packed.
  • Boxes must always be taped on the bottom, rather than interlocking the ends together. All boxes must be closed and have flat tops so they can be stacked in the moving vans. Duct tape will not stick to cardboard. Pack your stereo and computer in their original boxes if possible. Pack a box or bag of personal items you will need during the move such as a change of clothes, toiletries, medicine, maps, food and drinks.  Keep it in an easy to find place.

Moving tips and items to complete before your move

  • Determine what you are going to move and eliminate unwanted items. Host a garage sale or donate unwanted items to charity.
  • Decide what items you are going to pack and what the movers will pack. (The mover is not responsible for damage to items you pack.)
  • Send your forwarding address to your local post office, insurance company, stores, creditors, friends, etc.
  • Request final reading of your utilities at present address and arrange utilities to be turned on at your new location.  Schedule disconnect for your telephone for after you have moved.
  • Transfer your insurance, bank accounts, driver’s license, medical and dental records, children’s school transcripts and records to your new address.
  • Cancel services such as newspaper, lawn services, security, cable TV, pest control, cleaning help, and any other services you receive.
  • Start packing.  Do a little at a time.  Don’t try to do it all in one day.  Mark boxes “fragile”, “This side up”, etc.  Also, designate the room where you want the boxes placed in your new house.
  • Items you want to move yourself, mark “Do not Move.”
  • Decide ahead where you want to place furniture in your new home.
  • Remove breakables, items that will spill, and valuables from dressers. Important legal documents, valuables and family medical records should be personally transported by you.
  • Secure the lids on all plastic tubs with tape in all directions.
  • Have appliances serviced and ready for moving.  Check owner’s manuals to see if there are special instructions for moving.
  • To save time and money there are a few things you may wish to do. For instance you may want to move small items yourself, like plants, wall hangings, and other easy to transport items.  You may want to disassemble furniture so it is ready to be moved.  As you take apart furniture make sure to tape all parts or put into zip lock bags. Attach to the items to be put back together.
  • If necessary arrange for storage of your goods
  • If necessary reserve elevator for moving day.
  • Defrost your refrigerator/freezer if necessary.

On Moving Day

  • Be present on moving day to answer the mover’s questions.
  • Accompany movers through the house to inventory items to be moved.
  • Confirm destination address with truck driver.
  • Develop a floor plan or be available to show the movers where you want your belongings placed in your new home.

Residential Movers Omaha
Wanted to let you know how impressed I was with the services I received during my move on September 25. I had done some searching on prices and you were a little more expensive than others, however, you came highly recommended. I enjoyed working with all three of your movers, Rich, Brandon, and Gary. They did a great job moving things carefully, and placing them in my residence which was a rental house. Not only that they were very friendly, an added bonus. Please pass along these compliments to this professional group of friendly guys. When I move again, I will be calling you back.
